High Risk Pregnancy, Regular Parental Care is the Answer
Pregnancy can be an overwhelming knowledge for a woman. While the focus of this phase is the baby’s health, it is important to concentrate on the well being of the mother too. Pregnant women are prone to situation such as Pre-eclampsia, Gestational Diabetes, and Multiple Gestation — situation that enlarge the chances of high-risk pregnancies.
Read on to know more about reducing exposure to high-risk pregnancies:
1) Pre-eclampsia – Pre-eclampsia is differentiate by high blood pressure and is most common in the third trimester. If left untouched, pre-eclampsia can lead to serious problems for both the mother and the baby. It can impair kidney and liver functions and reason blood clotting, pulmonary edema (fluid in the lungs), seizures and, in severe forms, maternal and infant death.
In addition to keeping a regular check on blood pressure levels, expectant mothers are advised to:
- Maintain a healthy weight
- Eat a balanced diet
- Exercise on a regular basis
2) Gestational Diabetes – Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) is a situation when a woman develops high blood sugar levels during pregnancy. GDM enlarge the risk of pre-eclampsia, depression, and delivery via a Caesarean section. Babies born to mothers with untreated gestational diabetes are at a higher risk of being obese, and being born with low blood sugar or jaundice.
Moderate physical exercise along with a balanced diet is efficient in the avoidance of gestational diabetes — something doctors also prescribe on the onset of GDM. Additionally, quitting smoking reduce the risk of this situation. If these measures don’t yield results in a week or two, doctors prescribe medication to keep a check on GDM.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
